The ice superficies on the Arctic has recorded its smallest size ever during the summer of 2008. The 5-year-old ice has diminished by 56%, and it is predicted that between the summers of 2013 and 2040 it is going to disappear completely. The Arctic land will then be constituted of young ice, which will be reformed every winter. This has a direct effect on the ecosystem.
